| Correct again. Swimming today is getting more specialised. Kitajima only swims the breast, Cavic is strictly a sprinter in one stroke (the butter) and Sullivan is strictly a freestyle sprinter. Cavic and Sullivan don't even swim 200m in their specialised strokes. Phelps is swimming everything from 100 fly to 200 free to 400 IM. That's a crazy range of events and he's beating guys who can concentrate their entire training regime on 1 event instead of 5 individual events like Phelps. | echo6161 |

| Well said Luckyhearts. I am a fan of both track and swimming and a neutral when it comes to nationality. Thorpe was in his prime in 2004 and in his specialist event when he beat Phelps in the 200m freestyle. He put all his energy into it. Phelps was still on the rise and the event was only his 5th or 6th best. Phelps destroyed Thorpe so much in IM events that Thorpe eventually stopped swimming them. He dominates in butterfly, IM and now 200 free. Thorpe only dominated one stroke. | echo6161 |

| swimming is not like t&f. if t&f was like swimming there'd be a 80m, 120m, 140m, 160m, 180m sprints and a 4x50m, 4x150m and 4x200m relay. Bolt would be in them all and get 8 medals too.
