| In Jazz there are no mistakes if it's intentional. | kiplingrever |
| Yes, Diz wrote it. | minor7b5b9 |
| could'nt have said it better. | Dyintryin |
| "harmonies are not complex but...what do you say..." lol - still a masterpiece | ziemass |
| yea thats what it is and it's a very hard song to play | Silver46 |
| The song shows up at the end of the album "Ultimate Dizzy Gillespie" but unfortunately I don't have the CD jacket so I can't check to see if Diz wrote it or not... | hvymtlsteve |
| Jimmy Cleveland is unbelievable. I love it when trombonists stick it to valve/key instruments by playing just as fast and clean and still keep their rich, superior tone. | JGRtheRed |
| Umm no. Phil Woods, Paul Desmond, Art Pepper, Lou Donaldson, just to name a few were major alto players during the 50s. | KlassyKamikaze |
| I think Paul Desmond was more of a Lester Young guy. Art Pepper, too, on second thought. | jgrodnik |
| Paul Desmond? | bearblaster420 |
| I'd put Art Pepper in that category. | jgrodnik |
| the intro song's called "Bebop," I think Dizzy wrote it. | GretnaBlast |
| I love bop! | pataphysician66 |
| Great Music, full of drive and Rhythm guitar. | valvetrom |
| What's the name of the intro song? | Shirito |
| Muito massa .....mestre.... | leojazzsp |
| Lee Konitz and Cannonball were only major alto players in 50's who created their own style based in Bird but didn't copy him. | raittis |
| A GIANT it's excellent how he doesn't deny the influence but praises it. some players achieve a certain greatness but are still too insecure to bow down to their gurus | patrickgamil |
| Cannon was influenced by Bird like EVERY sax player at the time (with the exception of Paul Desmond and the like) was influenced by Bird. But in Cannon's ballads you also hear Benny Carter. So what? ...THEY had their influences too. One of Bird's was Lester Young. Soon Cannonball became his own man with an instantly recognizeable sound, style and phrasing. What spoils this excellent jazz are the rude, missinformed comments below. Especially KOKOYAMS. If you can't be civil keep it to yourself. | Jivencat |
| Okay, if it is that easy, why don't you go ahead and do that yourself? In fact, wouldn't any of us, given the chance, not hesitate at the chance to play like Bird? That said, Cannonball has his own voice in terms of phrasing, intensity, and tone, and at the end of the day is still one of the all time great improvisers. | bopguity |
| at last someone reasanable. i admit cannonball,s main contribution as player. His Phrasing is definely unique.... | KOKOYAMS |
| isnt it just a phrygian chord? | MannerzJM |
| yer but he expanded and made completely a new style of improvisation out of it. nobody phrases like cannonball | MannerzJM |
| Right.Man! as i said before if you know Parker,s Music . you will see that cannonbal is relly a good sponge, he just learned everything of Charles parker as he honestly says here. | KOKOYAMS |
