balloons are filled with helium and over time sink down. attached to each balloon is a small metal sphere carrying an LED to trace its path in the air. the wire grid below is an exposed incomplete circuit; as the metal spheres land on the grid they complete the circuit, switching on some of the fans below. this movement causes the balloons to rise up again, which switches the circuit off, causing them to fall, which switches a different circuit on...
