Which DJ software to choose? Advice for those looking...
For Turntablists: Serato will give you the best vinyl simulation, with lowest latency (good thing). That is the whole focus of Serato Scratch Live. A solid, reliable, low latency audio interface is part of the package with Serato, and that is a good thing for turntablist. If you are a turntablist looking for a digital solution, don't waste your time anywhere else. http://www.serato.com/ For the mix DJ that wants solid timecoded vinyl control as well: Torq. Torq has a strong focus on time coded vinyl control, also has a dedicated low latency audio interface, but also has features for the more digital mix DJ. Torq can also be controlled by the M-Audio X-Session Pro, or the M-Audio Xponent midi controller, for those who want a more compact solution, without timecoded CD's or Vinyl. Torq is relatively new on the scene, and does not have the long background of Serato. http://www.torq-dj.com/ For those that want more flexibility, and the most features: Virtual DJ, and other similiar programs, like Tracktor, DJ Decks, PCDJ, and the list goes on. With these programs, you are responsible for picking out an audio interface, and getting it to work reliably with your computer hardware. This will take more work. On the upside, you can choose from a LONG list of midi controllers, and have a lot of features. You will have a harder time getting time coded vinyl to work, but it can be done. http://www.virtualdj.com/ If you are an MC, and you want your computer to mix for you. You want complete automation: OtsAV. Currently no midi control ability at all, no time code ability. This really is for the MC that want's his hands free. OtsAV is very reliable, with good sound quality. It's good at what it does, which is automation. http://www.otsav.com/

| @luxor4o: Well it's a good thing there are so many choices then, so that you can choose something that works for you better. | sleeperawaken36 |
| virtual dj...ah yes..i hate it! | luxor4o |
| I don't agree! i think the filter are better on native instruments traktor pro! thats my opinion... :) hf | r3nc3k |
| License, sounds kind of paranoid don't ya think? Remember, you're doing these artist a favor to. | steeltownbrown52 |
| I'm just a guy who currently uses a Tascam TT-M1 turntable controller and Mixwell CD-DJ 1. Gettin' tired of burning CDs. So obviously I need a time-coded CD friendly program that is the cheapest?. | steeltownbrown52 |
| @stinkfists462: The problems you are having with record may be due to the computer not being able to keep up, or a sound card issue. I don't have issues as long as I record in MP3 and no more than 192, but usually do it with 128 to be honest. If I wanted to go high quality, I'd either have to get a much faster laptop, or use something external to record, which really I would need to do anyway, since I use an external mixer to mix. | sleeperawaken36 |
| My review of VirtualDJ: Like: the BeatGrid and The Filters are THE BEST effects in digital softwares out there Dislikes: record mode is really crappy while creatibg you own songs with Wav files, it will generate sounds that arent there and even sometimes the synchronizations you do dont match anymore | stinkfists462 |
| even if i can use my ears together with a dj software, i cannot set the bpm of the 1st song exactly to the same as the 2nd songs bpm is. i think the real dj-ing is the best! you realy can with the mixer and the players mix, without any complication! | janchokiss |
| Additionally, you want to use one good quality sound card that supports ASIO for low latency, and has two stereo outputs or more. If you want to do time codes, then you need two stereo inputs as well. Maya 44 is a good economy card for DJ software. | sleeperawaken36 |
| I recommend that you learn how to beatmatch, and not depend on the software to be that accurate. Sync is a nice tool when you need to save some time, but you shouldn't be depending on it, particularly because no software matches the BPM dead on every time. Learn how to use your ear. | sleeperawaken36 |
| i recommend software what can: beatmatch for example tracks with these bpms: 135,xxx and 141,xxx not just 135,xx and 141,xx. And of course what can use two soundcards: one for the master output & one for the headphones and monitor | janchokiss |
| torq is kinda slow but is good for recording | mclovin4uz |
| In the UK you need a licence to play your own music and another licence if you are DJing using mp3. For more info search for PPL and PRS on google UK. They have all the info. | Boydy141287 |
| yes im in us... i have rhapsody to go subscription which is like renting the songs... i can only keep them on my computer or my mp3 player nowhere else.... im paying a monthly fee for it would that count to have the right to play in public? | digitalmuzic |
| This is how it is in the US that is. I believe if you are in Europe, you have to have some kind of dub license that is specific to using MP3/digital files. | sleeperawaken36 |
| Generally Venues are required to hold the license, such as for high school/college dances, wedding reception venues. If you are the one holding and promoting the event on your own, you will need to get a license. As far as the MP3's themselves, you need to have legal copies, either buy purchasing through itunes, or owning the original on CD. Promo Only is a great company for getting DJ music, and you get the radio edits that way. Then you can rip them to MP3, and you have the legal original. | sleeperawaken36 |
| hi, just need advice on djing with mp3s is it illegal to dj with copywritten music in public? do i need a license? is there a way that i can get unlimited use of tracks for djing legally? for a monthly fee? or do i have to buy each song like on itunes in order not to get in trouble? thanks!!!!!! | digitalmuzic |
| thanks for Sharing This video | partymastersdj |
| well the same thing happened to me when I got M-Powered pro tools dj software, some stuff just neewd the hardware to work, which sucks! | bobis7 |
| How come Mixman rarely comes up? its the best for quality and easy to use so why doseny mixman come up in 95% of all the "Best Dj software" debates? | bobis7 |
| i have v dj | timewire909 |
| Good video comrade, I use multiple software programs but most electronic musicians focus on compatible software for the hardware "instruments" Me my self I do liquid Funk and I use guitars, keyboards, and mics but also I cut loops out of songs so I mean you really have to find whats right for you like sleeperawaken36 says, but many of you will probably need to use more than one programs guaranteed and it is not cheep to start out at so just be creative and make some thing new.... SGG NEO out! | DJxSGGxNeo |
| Thanks very helpful | drfeelgood39 |
| What do you mean how do you get turntables? Turntables are available nearly everywhere, and all over the place online. Use google. Go to djforums and ask what turntablists recommend for the price that you can afford. | sleeperawaken36 |
| You need to do research, which means using google, and reading a lot, before just downloading something. Serato scratch, as I mentioned in the video, requires Rane hardware to operate, either a SL1 or SL3 audio interface, or a special Rane mixer, I think it's the 57. | sleeperawaken36 |
