Audience Warm-Up from 'Eco-Friendly Jihad' - Edinburgh Fringe 2008

This clip is part of the audience warm-up section of my 2008 Edinburgh Fringe show 'Eco-Friendly Jihad'. Comedy is all about pacing. A string of one-liners is perfect for a seven-minute set (or YouTube video) but it's exhausting when delivered relentlessly for an hour. When the audience walk in to my show, all they've seen is the title - 'Eco-Friendly Jihad' - and a poster of me wearing a suicide vest. So here I'm trying to set the tone, convince them that I'm not a lunatic, and win their trust so that I can say some pretty outrageous (and funnier) things later on. Unfortunately, YouTube doesn't really give me the scope to put all that up without cannibalising my show. Which is why it's an hour-long live performance. If you want to see a joke-filled 5-minute set I did specifically for YouTube, search for Abie Philbin Bowman on Balcony TV.

I'd like this guy better if his accent werent so hard to understand. He should speak clearly like us Irish...johnobama
Thanks for the feedback guys. To put this in context, it's the warm-up section of a 1 hr show. Comedy is all about pacing. A string of one-liners is perfect over 7 mins but exhausting over an hour. When my audience walk in, I have to set the tone and win their trust so that I can say some pretty outrageous (and I hope, much funnier) things later on. But those require more back-story than I can fit in a YouTube clip. If you want to see a pithy, joke-filled set search for Abie on Balcony TV.AbieLaughs

Come on guys, this is funny. Don't confuse the engaging adrenaline of live performance for being scattered. If we can't laugh at these things, then we're all seriously doomed...dclnm
